How to read a welcome bonus before you claim it

Start with the wagering requirement

The wagering requirement is the most important number. It tells you how many times you must play through the bonus amount before withdrawing. For example, a 20x requirement on a RM200 bonus means you must place RM4,000 in bets. Always look for this figure in the terms.

Lower is better. If the site states 30x or higher, expect to play much longer before cashing out. Compare a few offers in the lobby. A bonus with 15x is far more achievable than one at 40x. Write the number down before you deposit.

Check which games count

Not all games contribute equally to the wagering requirement. Slots usually count 100 per cent, but table games like blackjack or baccarat may count only 10 per cent or zero. If you prefer table games, a bonus that excludes them is not worth claiming.

Look for a list of eligible games in the terms. If your favourite slot is missing or contributes less, the bonus becomes harder to clear. Stick to games that count fully. This prevents wasting ringgit on bets that barely move the wagering meter.

Find the minimum deposit

Every welcome bonus has a minimum deposit amount. In Malaysia, this is often RM25, RM50, or RM100. Depositing less means you get no bonus. Depositing more does not increase the bonus if there is a cap. Check the exact figure before you transfer money.

Use e-wallets like Touch 'n Go or GrabPay to meet the minimum quickly. Bank transfers can take longer and sometimes incur fees. Match your deposit exactly to the minimum if you want the smallest commitment. This keeps your risk low while you test the platform.

Watch for maximum bet limits

Many bonuses limit how much you can bet per spin while the bonus is active. A common limit is RM30 per spin. If you bet more, the site may void your bonus and any winnings. This rule catches players who try to clear wagering fast with large bets.

Check the terms for a maximum bet clause. If the limit is too low for your usual play style, consider skipping the bonus. Playing without it gives you freedom to bet any amount. The bonus is only useful if you can follow its rules comfortably.

Expiry dates and withdrawal caps

A welcome bonus does not last forever. Most expire within 7 to 30 days of claiming. If you do not meet the wagering requirement by the deadline, the bonus and any winnings are removed. Note the expiry date in the terms and plan your play sessions.

Withdrawal caps also matter. Some bonuses limit how much you can withdraw from winnings, such as 10x the bonus amount. If you win RM5,000 on a RM200 bonus with a 10x cap, you can only withdraw RM2,000. Always check this cap before you start playing.
